Hi Everybody! Here are some helpful tips for keeping your instrument clean. I have also attached below, a variety of helpful videos on cleaning some instruments -- I recommend doing this over spring break! MouthpiecesThe mouthpiece, flute head joint, English Horn and bassoon bocal, and saxophone neck crook, are essential parts of wind instruments. As the only parts of these instruments placed either in or close to the musician’s mouth, research has concluded that these parts (and reeds) harbor the greatest quantities of bacteria. Adhering to the following procedures will ensure that these instrumental parts will remain antiseptically clean for the healthy and safe use of our students and faculty. Cleaning the Flute Head Joint

Hello Parents! Please take the time to read the following information about our spring Band Camp! Band Camp This is a very exciting opportunity for students to work with clinicians, participate in and observe rehearsals, and also spend some time doing a variety of team bonding activities! This year, we will be invited students in grades 7-9. CAMP HORIZON April 20-21, 2020 Yes, this is a slight change of date.
-meals and snacks (included)
Students will be staying in dorm buildings while at the camp, with boys and girls in separate buildings during the sleeping hours. We will also be bringing another teacher from Dr. George Stanley as well as any willing parent volunteers for chaperoning (the number of required volunteers will depend on the number of students attending).
Thank you for once again, taking the time to read one of my very lengthy emails! I hope you have a wondering evening and I hope to hear from you all soon! Ms. Thomas Hey guys!
I wanted to share this great website with you: https://www.musictheory.net/ It's a music theory website and it has lots of free internet content for you to practice reading music! It also has LESSONS that explain it all to you if you need a refresher. Yay. This website also has two really great apps that even Ms. Thomas uses (yes, that's right, I always have more learning to do too, if I want to become a better musician). I believe they may cost money, so you don't need to download them unless you and your family really want to. Hope this site helps you all out!

This week we are going to be exploring the music of the Most Important Band of All Time!
At home with your families:
Find your favourite Beatles song (use Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube):
-why is it your favourite?
-what Beatles "era" is it from (cute pop, experimental rock)?
-who wrote it?
-which album is it on?
Here is a link to the things we talked about in class today!

Here's a wicked clip from the Busty and the Bass show on Tuesday! I love this one because it demonstrates the energy in the gym at the end of the show!

Hello Band Students and Families!
My name is Ms. Thomas, and it is my privilege to be your music and band teacher this year! I am so excited to have you as a part of our program. My goal this year is to share my love of music with all of you, and to help ignite your own musical passions! My personal musical experiences range from childhood piano lessons, to playing clarinet in junior/high school band, and all the way to playing drums in a cover band! I hope to pass on the same desire for lifelong musical learning to all of my students.
Let's Rock!
Ms. Thomas
